oseph is a very small town in Eastern Oregon, in a valley nestled between the Wallowas mountains on one side and Hells Canyon on the other (well, the canyons surrounding Hells Canyon; Hells Canyon itself is fairly hard to get to). Here’s a couple of off-road vehicles I saw when I was passing through there last week.

Oh man of I miss going up to Joseph. Those backroads are great out there.

Many years ago, we stayed in an old historic hotel in Joseph. It was on a lake (I assume Wallowa Lake). There was a large, manicured lawn leading down to the water, dotted with hu ge shade trees. I am not a believer in ghosts, but this place was as close to a haunted house as anything that I have ever seen. There were old photographs in the lobby; many of them showing people in turn-of-the century attire playing croquet on the lawn. At night, looking out of the windows, you could imagine them out there.
I searched online, but can’ t seem to find the place. There is a place called the Wallowa Lake Lodge, but that doesn’t look like it.

I was pleasantly surprised to find a bakery with vegan options there. And that Embers pub place is pretty good

I had a little fun on the forest service road to & from the trailhead where we hiked into Hells Canyon, and the last part of the Hells Canyon scenic byway (SR 82?) was nice and curvy (with a couple flat sections where I greatly exceeded the speed limit)

I really like the chocolate/coffee shop, and terminal gravity.
